Terms of Service
By using Knockoff (the "app", "service") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Plain English first; the legal back-stop is the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.
The deal
Knockoff is a tool for New Zealand tradies. It runs a timer, builds quotes, tracks timesheets, generates invoices, and stores reference PDFs offline. You give us nothing for the free tier. The Pro tier costs what it says on knockoff.app at the time you subscribe.
Your account
The app uses anonymous accounts by default — no signup is required. If you sign in (email magic link), you're responsible for keeping access to that email. We can't recover an account whose email you've lost access to.
Your data, your responsibility
- You're the data controller for any client information you store in Knockoff. You agree you have the right to store it and the right to share it with our processor (Supabase).
- Back up anything important. We do our best to keep the database running, but we provide the app "as is" and we don't guarantee uptime, integrity, or availability.
- Don't enter information you wouldn't want stored on a third-party server in Australia.
What the app is — and isn't
Knockoff is a productivity tool. It's not professional advice. Specifically:
- Calculators (timber, concrete, GIB, etc.) are estimating aids. Always check NZ Building Code, NZS 3604, span tables, and supplier specs before you cut, pour, or fix.
- Quote and invoice totals reflect what you enter. We don't audit your maths or your GST treatment. Get an accountant if you need one.
- Weather forecasts come from Open-Meteo. We don't guarantee accuracy. Don't bet a roof on it.
- AI features (when enabled) suggest material prices and quote line items. AI gets things wrong. Always verify before sending a quote to a client.
- NZ Building Code, WorkSafe, NZS 3604, BRANZ, GIB, MiTek documents we ship are the publishers' own PDFs. We don't author them and we may not have the very latest version. Check the publisher's site for updates.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- Use the app to commit fraud, evade tax, or break the law.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to break the security of the backend or other users' data.
- Store other people's personal data without their permission.
- Resell, sublicense, or rebrand the app without written agreement.
Subscriptions
Pro tier subscriptions purchased through the website are processed by a third-party payment provider (currently Stripe). Cancel any time from the customer portal — your access continues until the end of the billing period.
If you subscribe through the iOS App Store, billing and cancellation are managed by Apple under their standard subscription terms. We can't refund Apple charges; contact Apple Support.
Changes to the app
We ship updates frequently. Features come and go. We'll surface anything material in-app or via the changelog at knockoff.app/#whats-new.
Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time (Settings → Account → Delete account, or email support@knockoff.app). We can suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, usually with notice unless the breach is serious.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by NZ law, Knockoff is provided "as is" without warranty. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim — if you're on the free tier, that's zero. The Consumer Guarantees Act protections that can't be contracted out of still apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Disputes go to the New Zealand courts.
